A scheduled Hermes Agent that watches a marketplace side business and acts on what it finds

A seller of 13 web-scraping tools on the Apify Store runs a Hermes Agent on cron each morning: it scans platform news, checks pricing compliance and listing gaps, prepares fixes, and sends an 8-line report.

Evidence: The author reports this. We have not checked it beyond reading the source.

The business problem

A solo seller with paid tools on a third-party marketplace kept putting off the daily chore of following platform announcements, store trends, pricing-rule deadlines and new listing features, and could miss changes that affect sales or billing.

What was tried

1. Run Hermes Agent (open source, by Nous Research) on your own server and start it from a daily cron job that hands it a task file. 2. Keep platform knowledge in plain markdown skill files (how the store works, preflight checks, the publishing API rules), and edit those files when the platform changes its limits. 3. Each morning the agent reads the marketplace blog feed for posts from the last 48 hours, pulls the store's top 10 listings to spot demand, and audits your own listings, for example whether each public tool uses the required pay-per-event pricing. 4. It writes and runs small helper scripts against the marketplace API for these checks, compares your listings with newly announced features (here, published task examples that help store search), and prepares the change. 5. It attempts the change, and when a call fails it traces the cause and flags it for you with the numbers instead of retrying silently. 6. It logs what it read and what it did in a dated markdown file and sends you a short report. The author says the agent also drafts entries for writing contests with cash prizes.

What was reported (positive)

The author says about 45 minutes of daily platform watching became reading 8 lines. In the week described, the agent found that he had 11 saved tasks and no published task examples and prepared them, checked pricing on all 13 public tools ahead of a migration deadline, and caught that one scraper run had used up most of his $5 monthly account limit (about $4.60 of proxy traffic), which blocked the publish call. No sales or revenue effect is reported.

Limitations

Self-reported, one week of output shown, written as an entry for a dev.to writing challenge. The time saving is the author's estimate and there is no effect on sales. The language model used is not named (the author says the setup works with any model). The agent holds live credentials (marketplace, Gmail, Stripe) and acts on the account, which carries risk; the post shows one action failing. The code shown is an abridged excerpt, not a full repository. Specific to the Apify Store, though the pattern transfers to any marketplace seller.

What you need

A server you control, Hermes Agent installed, API access to the marketplace, and an LLM provider. Comfort reading the scripts the agent writes.

Start with read-only checks and a report; let the agent make changes only after you have reviewed several days of output.

A prompt to try

Every morning: read the [marketplace] blog posts from the last 48 hours, list the top 10 store listings, and check each of my public listings against the current pricing and listing rules. For each gap, prepare the exact change, try it only if it is in my allowed list, and report in under 10 lines what you read, what you did, and anything that failed with the reason.
