Build reusable Claude Skills to produce a paid newsletter package, repurposed posts and brand voice checks
A Substack strategist explains how a solo creator builds Claude Skills that turn one topic into a newsletter package, and shares the build order, setup steps and her time-saving estimates.
Evidence: The author reports this. We have not checked it beyond reading the source.
The business problem
Producing a weekly paid newsletter plus its promotional assets takes hours each week, and generic AI output does not match the creator's voice.
What was tried
The creator talks to Anthropic's built-in skill builder, which writes a SKILL.md file with trigger phrases, workflow steps and one or two real examples. The skill is installed in Cowork through a connected skills folder or uploaded as a zip in Chat. A weekly newsletter skill produces an SEO block, headline variants, the body, image prompts, a sign-off and a P.S. line. Suggested skills follow a build order: weekly publish, repurpose, voice check, offer, then research. She tests each on three real tasks before relying on it.
What was reported (positive)
The author estimates a full newsletter package in about 12 minutes instead of a multi-hour process, 8 to 12 hours saved per month per weekly skill, and break-even after three or four uses. These are her own estimates.
Limitations
Time savings are the author's estimates with no independent measurement. Skills without examples give generic output, vague descriptions trigger at the wrong time, and public skills may be unsafe or off-brand so each should be read first. Chat cannot reach local files or run long multi-step work. Prices and plan requirements for Cowork and Claude Code are not stated.
What you need
A Claude account (Pro is listed at $20 a month), and for local file workflows the Cowork desktop app. Basic coding is said to be unnecessary.
