Keep customer lookup ahead of payment links in an n8n sales agent: a reported two-sale failure and a tool-sequencing fix

A builder reports that a WhatsApp sales agent skipped customer lookup and sent broken Stripe links. They describe a community node that exposes tools one at a time, while commenters question whether the payment path needs an agent.

Evidence: The author reports this. We have not checked it beyond reading the source.

The business problem

A sales agent can call payment tools with invented customer details if required lookups are left to the model's discretion.

What was tried

The reported setup uses n8n with Groq-hosted Llama 70B: look up a customer in MySQL, create a Stripe link, then send it through WhatsApp. The builder says stricter prompts, examples and temperature changes did not stop skipped lookups. Their proposed n8n-rails node exposes one tool per step and requires a call. Commenters instead propose using AI for intent recognition and ordinary nodes for lookup, payment and delivery.

What was reported (failed)

The builder reports skipped lookups in roughly 15-20% of executions and two lost sales in one day. No measured post-fix success rate is supplied.

Limitations

The failure figures are self-reported. The post promotes the author's node. Its v0.1 description covers sequencing; validation and failover are roadmap items, despite broader repository claims. We have not tested it.

What you need

The reported stack uses n8n, Groq/Llama, MySQL, Stripe and the WhatsApp Cloud API.
