Run three small AI-generated directory sites on a nightly GitHub Actions job with Claude Haiku and Astro
An architecture write-up of three niche directory sites whose content is generated by Claude Haiku, rebuilt nightly, kept small and linked to primary sources, in a six-month experiment on whether such sites can rank.
Evidence: The source shows its work: steps, screenshots, code or data you can inspect.
The business problem
A solo builder wants low-cost niche directory sites without publishing huge numbers of thin, stale pages that search engines treat as scaled content abuse.
What was tried
Each site pulls entries from source APIs such as Hugging Face, Steam and GitHub. A nightly GitHub Actions job finds entries missing content, makes one Claude Haiku call per entry that returns JSON, upserts the result and rebuilds only if content changed. The sites are built with Astro, kept to about 880 pages at launch, link each page to its canonical source, add structured data, and state in the footer that the content is AI-generated. Hosting was moved to a free tier, cutting the stated monthly cost from about $25 to about $2.25.
What was reported (not reported)
No traffic, revenue or indexing results are reported yet, as they are promised for a follow-up. The author admits that all 120 games in the shipped data carry identical template caveats because generation fell back to templates instead of reaching Claude.
Limitations
There are no results, the code is not public, and the exact prompts are not shown. The author acknowledges that Google's scaled-content enforcement may deindex such sites. Ad and affiliate components are inactive pending approvals. The year is inferred from references in the post rather than stated.
What you need
An Anthropic API key, GitHub Actions, a static site host, source data APIs and comfort with Node and monorepo tooling. Running cost is stated as about $2.25 a month plus domains.
