Ship a Chrome extension update in under three hours and about eight dollars of tokens with Claude Code
A solo developer used Claude Code to release two versions of a small Chrome extension in two days, including debugging, refactoring, release notes and the store listing text.
Evidence: The author reports this. We have not checked it beyond reading the source.
The business problem
A small side product that has sat untouched needs updates, release notes and a store listing, and the time to do them is hard to find.
What was tried
Run Claude Code in the extension's repository with per-command approval for shell commands. Let it handle routine git commits, pushes and pulls, and keep tags and rebases manual. Have it debug the uncommitted code, rework the event listeners, tighten edge cases and input sanitising, refactor the popup and validation, and add a test mode and clearer error messages. Then ask it to draft the release notes and the Chrome Web Store description, and set up GitHub issues as a lightweight support channel. The author reviews every change and makes the final calls.
What was reported (positive)
Version 1.2 took 1 hour 15 minutes and about $3 in tokens, and version 2.0 took 1 hour 40 minutes and about $4.60. The total was under three hours and roughly $7.65. No installs or revenue are reported.
Limitations
One developer's account of a small free tool, with no install counts, revenue or user feedback. The author says the tool needed oversight and compares it to a capable mid-level developer rather than a junior one. He describes no specific bugs it introduced, and has not tried connecting it to external tools. The time and cost figures are self-reported.
What you need
Claude Code with an Anthropic account or API credits, a repository for the extension, and a Chrome Web Store developer account to publish.
