Ship a first desktop and web product with Cursor and learn the 10 percent rule of launch work
A product manager describes building a macOS image-search app and its website with Cursor and an AI assistant, and the hosting, packaging and signing work that took far longer than the code.

The business problem
A first-time builder assumes an AI-built app is nearly done once it runs locally, then meets hosting, distribution and billing work.
What was tried
The author built a split product: a website for registration, subscriptions and downloads, and a desktop app for the machine-learning image search. Cheap shared hosting crashed under the heavy Torch and Transformer dependencies, so the heavy computation moved to the user's machine and the site stayed light. The author then handled domains, Stripe in test mode, packaging, port and path problems, permissions and code signing. A later update recommends a CLAUDE.md file for project context and starting on a cloud free tier.
What was reported (mixed)
The author reports a working app that runs smoothly on macOS and says later projects launched more smoothly. No users, sales or revenue are reported.
Limitations
The post states the lessons mostly as principles and numbers only two of the seven promised. It reports no costs, user counts or revenue, the app appears to be macOS only, and the AI assistant sometimes gave hallucinated solutions. The 2026 update adds recommendations that were not tested in the original build.
What you need
Cursor or Claude Code, hosting, a domain, an Apple developer account and Stripe. Costs are not stated.
