The business problem

An early-stage founder needs to learn a market and what customers really want quickly, without paid research, and to turn interview recordings into usable findings.

What was tried

The founder exports interview transcripts from Fathom and asks ChatGPT specific discovery questions, to pull quotes that show enthusiasm, and to list next steps. She also has ChatGPT brainstorm job titles across the sales cycle (users, payers, stakeholders, possible vetoers) to find people on LinkedIn, and generate a competitor and ecosystem table as CSV that she pastes into Excel. She refined outputs with follow-up prompts.

What was reported (mixed)

The author calls customer discovery the most beneficial use at this stage and says the competitor table saved a lot of research, though it took a lot of prompting and refining. No time savings, revenue or funding results are reported.

Limitations

The outcomes are qualitative and self-reported. The author's company is in aviation maintenance, not an online business, so the technique is transferable but was not tested in an online one. She says market analysis does not replace talking to real customers, that the executive summary it drafted was bland, and that legal documents need a lawyer. The post does not discuss accuracy problems, privacy of interview data, or cost.

What you need

A ChatGPT account, recorded and transcribed customer interviews (she used Fathom), and a spreadsheet tool. Costs and the ChatGPT plan or model are not stated.
